Our Right to BC Farmgate Food, Make it an Election Issue this May
When you ask a farmer in my region how they are doing, the first thing that comes up is the new meat regulations that were imposed on the processing of meat in our province. The main issue is that the small farmers producing organic local meat, can not afford or even find a place to get their meat butchered since the regulations were put in place. The processors were all shut down, which shut down many viable small farms in our region of the North Okanagan. The model for meat regualtions, put in place favors the large industrial industry. Our BC election is coming May 12th, 2009 and we want to make this an election issue, in solidarity with our farmer’s please contact you local MLA and speak out in the name of our food.

another good reason why we need to look at this next election as a turning point!
Great Video!
well done, we can’t let this issue die.
Another example of why it’s more important to change our leaders than our lightbulbd! I gave the BC gov and the fed gov (it all started there in ’96) a petition of 10,000 names yet have heard NOTHING from either one. That’s why I’m running as MLA in Vernon-Monashee, to change the MIR and to prevent the privatization of water and power.
So true. The Campbell doesn’t care about small farms or animal welfare. If they did, we would have a very different system where animals are slaughtered close to home. If their regulations were really necessary, wouldn’t there be numerous cases of people dying or getting sick from meat slaughtered under the current system? The problems with food safety are coming from the industrial model, Maple Leaf, big conventional poultry operations. etc. Thanks for making this video!
