Is it expensive to be a vegan?
Question by ♫ Music Man ♫: Is it expensive to be a vegan?
My parents say that they cant afford any “Crazy vegan health food” Is tofu/fake meat, or soy or egg replacement any more expensive than meat, milk and real eggs??? (Im not including veggies and fruits, cause we buy those anyway) Anyway to make it cheaper? Im only 13 and cant really pay for my own food, seeing as i cant work.

I don’t eat any of that meat or egg replacement stuff. You don’t need it. Yes, it is more expensive.
Soy milk can be beneficial though, but it is indeed about twice the price of regular milk.
You are unfortunately at the mercy of your parents.

no it’s not expensive, you can do without the tofu and fake meat, it’s not necessary, you can still make it as a vegan without that stuff. the soy/almond/rice milk can be a bit pricey though, but it’s not like it’s 10 buck a carton. in fact I’m pretty sure it costs less than a pound of beef.
I heard that egg replacers aren’t that great, but if you are substituting egg with something else for baking, you can use a mashed banana, squash or pumpkin, 1/4 of applesauce and plenty of other things to work as a binder.
Hello! young and conscious.
Being a vegan from ethical reasons should also include not buying industrial food.
To live Vegan craves awareness about food, ingredients, nutrition and you have to make good planning of your diet. (especially since you are still building your body to last a lifetime)
There is especially two groups you will be short of if you do not plan. Essential amino acids aka the right mix of proteins you need to build human muscles, skin, hair and so on.
And there is vitamin b12 that you will need to grow.
So what i will advise you to do is read yourself up on this diat and when you are ready have your folks buy cheap and natural ingredients.
Good luck!
Heres my advice-
Avoid fake meats. Unnecessary cost, without any benefit.
Unless you bake a lot, you dont really need egg replacer. Plus, Ive heard applesauce instead of egg works well.
You shouldnt get soy milk unless youre getting organic, because of a poison in it called hexane. So to lower the cost of getting a milky-style beverage, you could try out almond or rice milk. Watch for when its on sale, and stock up.
Good luck!
no, tell them that as long as grains are cheap, food aid will always be mostly vegan like corn, rice, beans, flour, vegetable oil and peanut paste like plumpy’nut. I’m a philanthropist. yes, vegan meat is pricy but the only reason meat is cheaper because a lot of people buy it and its supported with taxes.
I dont think almonds are too expensive. they have 22g of proteins per 100g, 4mg or iron and most of the fat is monounsaturated, a healthy thing. nuts and grains are good for you. they dont have to buy vegan foods, rice and noodles with veggies is already enough, or flatbread with some good sauce. in india poor people mostly eat rice and vegetables because meat is too expensive compared with vegetarian food.
it shouldnt be hard and you are supposed to eat healthy, so tell them that they shouldnt focus only on meat. too much animal protein isnt healthy, body will leech calcium out of bones to digest it. if its true or not, thats what some scientists are trying to warn us that cows milk is causing osteoporosis.
tofu is quite pricy, compare with the meat by weight and nutrition. maybe its cheaper, I dont know, I cant think of how much meat costs.
eggs substitutes are used in recipes. you dont eat it.
Hey, I’m going vegan tomorrow. But I’m vegetarian now.
And no not really. it’s pretty much the same.
Since your probably going to be eating more vegetables, and we all know vegetables are cheaper than so far it’s pretty cheap.
Meat replacements that I eat such as
Tofurkey, is the same price as regular deli meat.
Almond cheese. Is pretty cheap too.
So really depends on where you shop and what brands you buy. But I think it’s about the same cost.
