1 year old daughter – 34″ tall- and weighs 27 lbs. is that an average weight for her?
Question by Js: 1 year old daughter – 34″ tall- and weighs 27 lbs. is that an average weight for her?
My daughter will be 1 year next week. She is 32″ tall and weighs 27 lbs. She is a cute chubby baby. ..no rolls- just chubb!
But a very tall girl wearing size 2T.
Well, my question is, does anyone believe this child is overweight. I am NOT concerned about her weight as she is quite tall. But her doctor seems to think I am feeding her way too much! She has started walking about three weeks ago. I am sure once she is more of a walker the weight should come off. She eats about two jars of baby food (veggies) a day, healthy table foods (cheerios, fruits, whole wheat bread, small slivers of chicken), and is drinking 16oz. a day of 2nd step formula for older babies (up to 24 months). She is fed no “junk food.” She always ques me in to when she is full, and sometimes doesn’t finish her food.
Her doctor is concerned and says she should be limited food during the day and should be given more water, so she can lose weight. I told her she was outrageous for saying that…. and so on…
My daughter has always been chubby since birth ( and I did gain a little more weight during prego time – those darn Jack in the box tacos) LOL!!
Anyway, I am just curious to see what other parents think about this?!
Thx.

At that age my daughter was alson very tall, around 32-34 inches, and she was 24lbs. She seemed kinda think and not chubby like a baby. Our doctor told us that she was at a great weight. Once she starts moving though, all that chubb is going to fade away. Our daugther is on almost the same diet as yours except for she’ll eat any healthy food. We never gave the step 2 formula though. Dont limit her food, she does not need to lose any weight. Like I said once shes walking around and is more active the weight will fall off.
she is fine, don’t listen to the doctor.
You are right about walking helping to shed some baby fat. She is only 1 year old, don’t stop feeding her anything, she will not overeat she is still a baby! Plus she is quite tall so her weight will be in comparison to her height.
Also from now on she will not gain as much weight as they do in the first year so do not worry about what the doc said at all
My son is 8 months old is already over 30in and weighs about 10kg (22lbs) and when people hear that they think, OMG he must be huge but he’s not. He’s tall so his weight in comparison to his height is perfect but definately over average for his age. The child health nurse said he is fine, but about the size of an ‘average’ 13-14mth old!

this is him about 3 weeks ago, does he look fat!
don’t worry about your daughter, I’m sure she’s cute!
that is wrong of her doctor to even say that, your baby’s weight is fine, chubby babies are cute!! lol my son was around 30 lbs. when he turned 1 (but of course he was over 10 lbs. when he was born lol) and his doctor just said hes a big boy, if hes hungry let him eat lol and when they start walking they don’t gain as much weight at all
my 2.5 year old neighbor is 33 pounds and 36 inches, 95th percentile…but she doesnt look fat, but next to my cousin, same age, same height, u can tell shes just bigger (she weighs like 4 pounds more than my cousin)
some kids are just bigger, and as long as your feeding her healthy, she’ll be fine, and the walking thing is right, she’ll thin out over the next few months, she may lose a pound or 2, and grow and inch or 2 and then she will look different.
Its only a problem if u gave her ice cream, fast food and 2 cupcakes a day lol
keep up the healthy eating habits!! very important especially if there are any overweight tendencies in the family…
and she should be drinking a few cups of water a day
It sounds like your doctor just looked at the average weight for a one year old and didn’t factor in her height. My daughter has been “freakishly tall” since her 6 wk. checkup and always been fine. At her 18 mo checkup she was 35″ and 30#. She is fine. There is no reason to limit her food intake. That is crazy, especially since it is healthy food. When she starts running around, yes, the weight will drop off. My daughter is 2 1/2 now and she actually hasn’t gained any weight lately, shes just gotten taller.
I think she is a fine weight. My son is 15 months old and he is 32 inches tall and 25lbs. She is tall, so 27lbs is a perfectly acceptable weight. I can’t believe a doctor would tell you to limit her food intake, she is 1!!!
consider switching doctors, the weight and height is perfectly within the range of normal, she is just hitting both at a younger age but many 1.5-2 years olds are that weight and height.
She doesn’t seem overweight to me. Chubby, maybe, but not something to where she needs to go on a diet. Is she still on the growth chart? Is she highrer than the 100th percentile?
My 15 month old daughter weighs 20 pounds and 10 ounces. She is in the 25th percentile.

I just asked a question about my son not growing anymore Lol
He’s been 27lbs since he was around 12 months old, he’s 17 months old now! So she may stop growing for awhile. My son has always been chubby too. Don’t listen to trying a diet to loose weight but you could give her more water. It won’t hurt her anyway. If she starts loosing too much than you should be concerned.
